1. How many people need to fit at once?
Be honest about typical use, not the maximum you could theoretically squeeze in. A sauna rated for a given capacity is usually most comfortable at one or two fewer people than its stated maximum, since bench space and headroom near the ends of the barrel are limited.
2. Which wood fits your climate and maintenance preferences?
Cedar is naturally rot- and insect-resistant and has a distinctive aroma many buyers want, but is a premium-priced material. Thermally modified wood (thermowood) is a more affordable softwood that has been heat-treated to resist rot and moisture without chemicals, at the cost of some of cedar’s natural aromatic oils. A porch/vestibule adds a buffer changing area and can extend the sauna’s footprint meaningfully — check it fits your available space. A glass front adds natural light and a more open feel but is a design and privacy trade-off to consider for your setting.
